The Townshend Family
| Elizabeth Townshend married William Thomas on 15th October, 1786 in Halifax Parish Church. She died 6th August 1842 and was buried at Syon Chapel in grave plot no 836. She was 75 when she died and therefore she would have be borne in (or about) 1767 - possibly in Northowram (she was a "spinster of Northowram" on the marriage entry in the Halifax Parish registers) |

Elizabeth's parents are not known but she had at least two brothers
Thomas and Richard and a sister Sarah. Thomas and Richard were both moderately prominent civil engineers in the
latter 18th/early 19th centuries. Richard apparently died whilst
working on the Eau Brink cut (Fens) in 1818. Thomas was involved in a
number of civil engineering projects. Sarah married Adam Casebourne - of their children both Thomas and George are known to have been involved in civil engineering. Thomas became the resident engineer at Hartlepool whilst George was in a similar position at Bude. |
