The Bairstow Family

Matthew Bairstow was a corn dealer and malster living in Heptonstall. In 1802 he married Mary Holt the daughter of James Holt and Mary Roydes. They had at least six children

  2. Mary b. 1804

  3. John b. 1805

  4. Elizabeth b. 1807

  5. Martha b. 1808

  6. James b. 1811

According to the census in 1841, 1851 and 1861 it would appear that they all remained unmarried except for James who married Frances Mary TWAITE in 1867 - at the age of 56.

John and James were in partnership as corn dealers and malsters at Inchfield Corn mill at Todmorden.
